Burying one's head in the sand and pretending the problem does not exist might not be the right way. More than ten years hatching the goose golden eggs in order not to turn a blind eye. Another, symbolical, explanation is based in the fictitious tradition that female common ostriches do not sit on their eggs, but stare at them incessantly until they hatch out, because if they stop staring even for a second the egg will addle.
